Build it and they will come

We are fascinated by the remarkable engineering and beauty of bridges, but rarely do we consider the social, economic and environmental   impact a new crossing can have on the linked areas. Using historic audio and oral histories, the importance of looking at these “unintended consequences” is explored through the story of Rockland County, NY. After the Tappan Zee bridge was built in the 1950s a once sleepy county became New York City’s “6th borough” overnight.   A new Tappan Zee bridge is being built and the question remains what might be the unintended consequences of new bridge?

This story has been condensed and edited from a longer interview.
