We look at an old photograph, and we have a window to peek into the world of long ago. It is true of scenes from the Civil War, our grandparents and our younger selves. What listening to a recording of long ago events do is put you there! We step inside the window and remember. The experience is intense. The sound of a steamship places you on deck with the mist and smell of the sea already there. The sound of a small child - now all grown up -brings back those days as if truly relived. I commend Mr. Milster for his remarkable collection. From what I have seen-it's a darker blue and the grains are much smaller. What you cannot see is it's chemistry-it holds together much better than other bluestones.

The two long thin slabs of bluestone are in at the The two long thin slabs of bluestone are in at the Hudson River Maritime Museum. The grooves were cut by wagon wheels with the same tread and width. There is a smaller stone with a cross-I have been told that it was a filler stone that was turned 90 degress when the groove was about to cut the stone in half. Longer stones with a cross in them may have been stones at the intersection of two stone roads. The stone roads were laid by the quarry owners to keep their loaded wagons from sinking in the mud. Other bluestone road stones can be seen at the Senate House Museum, Hurley Heritage House, the Key Bank in Hurley and Seamons Park in Saugerties-and elsewhere. http://www.soundandstory.org/?site_id=550&page_id=106172#comm2420 Mon, 30 Mar 15 19:51:06 +0000 Tom Paxton also sang at the Cafe Espresso.
