Our Mission The mission of the World Sound Foundation (WSF) is to collect, preserve and disseminate first hand accounts of compelling human experiences in the cultural and scientific arenas, fostering an understanding and appreciation of our environment, our sense of place and our personal histories. The WSF records, archives, and makes available the signature sound ambiences and narratives which convey the unique character of a place and the people who inhabit it. By creatively presenting this material in contemporary media, the WSF increases public awareness of local lore and both scientific and cultural know-how, lowering barriers within and between communities, while encouraging a dialogue between scientists, academics, artisans and ordinary citizens. Through the power of listening, these stories and sounds help us to re-evaluate our relationship with our environment and each other.
