The Historic Joyous Lake

The Joyous Lake opened its doors in 1971. Owner Ron Merian’s was inspired by the 1969 Woodstock Music Festival and wanted to create a community space where the spirit of the festival could stay alive. It became one of the hottest music spots of the 70s.

Long time Woodstock resident and folksinger
Happy Traum remembers the early days of the Joyous Lake.

The success of the Joyous Lake during the 1970s helped to make Woodstock a name synonymous with music. The Joyous Lake changed hands in the 1980s, but continued to operate as a music venue for over 30 years.

Today the Joyous Lake is home to the Not Fade away Trading Company.
