Bam, wind and dragon - for those of us who grew up in the 50s and 60s those words evoke memories of mah jong. It is a game Elaine Stessin has been playing all her life.
Sound Memory
For many people the sound of the small rectangular mah jong tiles clicking together can transport them back to another time and place.

Player's arrange their tiles on a rack. Winning hands are listed on the card in front of the rack. New cards with different winning hands are issued each year. Players will pick up and discard tiles until someone gets a winning hand or mah jong.
The game is usually played with four players. This mah jong game is played at the Jewish Community center in New Paltz, NY.
Elaine teaches the mah jong class with her daughter, Susan Stessin-Cohen.
